Happy Belly Deli

Being tired of our own home cooking, and looking for something a bit more adventurous, Keith and I wandered downtown the other day, for lunch at the Happy Belly Deli.

Who could resist dining at a place with a name like that!?

Happy Belly’s kitchen is mainly open for breakfast and lunch, but they do serve pizza on Friday and Saturday nights.

It’s an eclectic establishment, as are most of the businesses in town, and you will find the Deli on Broadway, in the midst of the Historic Hot Springs District.

Once you have placed your order at the counter, you can be seated, as your meal will be delivered to your table.

The indoor dining space is relatively small, but the adjoining outdoor patio provides additional seating in a lovely setting, and most days, at least lunch can be taken outside.

Keith ordered the Green Chile Philly…angus Philly steak, onions, green chiles, mushrooms and provolone served on a hoagie roll.

I ordered the Southwest Turkey…grilled turkey, cheddar cheese, and green chile on fresh sourdough bread.

Both sandwiches came with a side ~ chips, potato salad, pasta salad or coleslaw, and were priced at a modest $6.95.

We selected an indoor table, and our food was delivered quickly.

Both sandwiches looked delicious, and we were not disappointed when we took our first bites.

Everything was tasty and fresh, and the Happy Belly does not skimp on serving size.

If you are not from New Mexico, you need to know that green chile is a staple on the food list here, and once you have tried it, you will understand why. It is delicious, and it seems to improve the flavor of everything you eat!

It didn’t take us long to wolf down our sandwiches, which happened to be the most popular on the sandwich menu, and we promised ourselves that we could come back soon to try their breakfast menu.

We walked out the door completely satisfied…..proof that the Happy Belly Deli can live up to its name!
