May I Have Your Autograph?

Within the past couple of weeks, I have been on both the asking and receiving end of this question.

It took us a few days to figure it out, but when a recent guest at Riverbend Hot Springs looked more familiar than he should have, we realized that he was none other than the award-winning German actor, Armin Rohde, whose latest role was in the film, “Contagion”, released in 2011.

One morning, a group of staffers were meeting in the office when Armin came in ~ it was the perfect time to gather up my courage and ask for his autograph….something I must admit that I have never had the experience of doing before.

Armin was a perfect gentleman, and took the time to ask my name and write a short, personal note, which is now proudly displayed in my book of mementos of our Sunset Ride. Thanks, Armin!

Then, last Tuesday, Keith and I were at The Charles Motel and Hot Springs in T or C, distributing flyers for our show at Groovy Gritz last night.

As we made our request to post the flyer, the name Groovy Gritz came up. Shortly thereafter, a guy came over to us and asked if we would autograph one of our flyers, as he was a big fan of Groovy Gritz, and loved their entertainment.

He and his wife spend some of their winter in T or C. His name is Rick ~ his wife, Marj.

We gladly signed the flyer, and then visited for a while. He is a sometime guitar player, while Marj plays a drum.

Sadly, they were not going to be in town for the show, but hopefully our paths will cross again someday.

We had a great time at Our Groovy Gritz show last night, and from the contents of the tip jar, and comments received after the show, we believe the audience did as well.

The highlight of the evening for Keith and me, was the debut of a new song we wrote about Truth or Consequences, titled, “Living on a Volcano”.

It’s a simple little folk-style song about life in this little desert town. We’ll try to get it recorded and up on the blog soon, and we hope that you enjoy it as much as the audience, which beamed and smiled knowingly throughout the performance.

Performing live in a small venue like a restaurant, provides an opportunity to watch the audience and to notice individuals and whether or not they simply “eat and run”, or stay on after their meal, to have another drink and listen to the entertainment.

It was reassuring to see a good number of folks stay on, and also to see several friends who came specifically for the show ~ we’re slowly building up a “following” of “Me and My Baby” fans! Thanks to Mike, Roger and Jeff for stopping by…..we love you guys!

One of our favorite parts of the evening is after the show, when we can kick back with a beer or glass of wine and chat with the people who stayed with us to the end. I had a nice visit with a lovely couple from Las Cruces.

I stopped to tell them that it makes my day when I’m performing and I can tell that younger people in the audience are enjoying our music, and it was obvious that they were having a good time.

It was also our good fortune to meet another well-known and successful local musician, Iya Khan, who came up after the show to introduce himself and say that he enjoyed our sound.

All-in-all, it was one of our best shows, and we’re happy to report that we’ll be playing again at Groovy Gritz on February 17th and March 23rd. Thanks to Joyce and Rob at Groovy Gritz for your generous support of local musicians ~ and for cooking up some of the best food in T or C!

  1. You guys are the bestest, you bring good mojo!

    • Thanks, Rob ~ “Me and My Baby” and Groovy Gritz are simply an awesome combo!
